Preparing to homeschool

Monday, July 03, 2006

Well, it's nearing the end of preparation and almost the time to do it for real. I finally did it and pulled my oldest son from the public schools in an attempt to do a little better for him, educationally speaking. I'm getting ready to file the affidavit and get the show on the road.

As it usually is with the oldest child, Kevin is my experiment with this homeschooling gig. If it works out well for us, we'll bring Marissa home in a couple of years and do the same for her.

I spent the last half of my pregnancy with Ava doing research, obtaining materials and putting together a secular curriculum. We built an addition on the house for our schoolroom/home office. All that is left is to put down the flooring, build the desk, finish the first month of lesson plans and get everything set up....oh yeah, and file the affidavit. We need to do that by August 1st and we need to have everything else ready by August 14th, which is the official start of our school year.

Here we go!
